DIAMOND PAINTING TIME!

Digital time-out with Diamond Painting pictures

We live in a time when we are bombarded with digital technology from all sides. It is becoming increasingly difficult to unite the family and do something creative together. Netflix and games consoles are in almost every household and internet connection is an important part of everyday life.

As I grew up in the countryside and without the internet, my childhood was very different to that of my children. On the one hand, you want your children to have everything that's in and trendy. But on the other hand, you also want them to have fun in real life, to play properly, to be creative with their hands and to be imaginative. Finding the right balance seems to be difficult. No matter whether the children are still small or already teenagers.

I was always looking for activities that we could all enjoy together and that were far removed from media consumption. One day, a friend told me about diamond painting. At first I was a little skeptical, but I googled it anyway and after I ordered a set from a diamond painting store to try it out, it quickly became clear as soon as the delivery arrived that I had found something for the whole family.

Family Diamond Painting

I started by spreading the Diamond Painting picture out on the table in a conspicuous but informal way for the others. As a mother, you always have to be tactical and my plan worked. At some point, everyone was curious to see what I was doing with this canvas and all the little glittering stones, and without realizing it or having to be asked, everyone suddenly wanted to try it out too, fascinated by the motif that came to life with every little stone.

BRILLIANT - I thought! Exactly what I wanted to achieve!

I bought some additional Diamond Painting accessories, especially the pens and bowls, so that we could work on it together and soon we were having sociable evenings at our large dining table where we spent time together on our Diamond Painting picture. I also liked the fact that if you wanted to have the table completely free, you could quickly roll up the painting and store it in the cupboard, even if you weren't quite finished yet. The fact that the stones stuck to the canvas as soon as they were placed on it meant that nothing could happen to the Diamond Painting. In contrast to a puzzle or a board game, where it wasn't so easy, this was really practical. Incidentally, our youngest wanted to know exactly how it worked at the beginning and when I showed and explained it to him, he said: "Oh, so it's like a puzzle, only with diamonds, a diamond puzzle!

Since then, we have been "puzzling with diamonds" at home and the children can now choose a new Diamond Painting motif every now and then. We now have an impressive collection of diamond painting artworks and each one tells a different story of our family time together full of anecdotes, jokes and laughter. The result of time spent together, which is so precious these days, and creates a lasting memory in our lives.
