Diamond Painting
What is Diamond Painting?
Diamond Painting is a relatively new art form in which pictures are broken down into a kind of mosaic or pixel pattern.
Creating a Diamond Painting is very simple and works like painting by numbers. However, you don't create the pictures with a brush and paint, but instead stick small diamond drills onto the self-adhesive canvas according to the template. Printed symbols show you where to stick the respective drills. This way, you can easily create a wonderful and unusual work of art that shimmers and glitters thanks to the diamond-cut drills.
And to get started right away, our Diamond Painting Sets naturally include everything you need. You can find a large selection of many different Diamond Painting motifs in our online store.
How does Diamond Painting work?
For all newcomers and diamond painting beginners, we have an illustrated step-by-step guide that explains the basics of diamond painting in detail. Further tips and tricks can also be found in our blog section . In addition to diamond painting instructions, which can also be found in short form on every product packaging of our diamond painting sets, additional accessories ensure even more diamond painting fun.
Where do you start with Diamond Painting?
Before you start your Diamond Painting, you should first find a flat surface such as a table. Ideally, this surface should be large enough so that you have enough space for your Diamond Painting and the accessories you need (bowls, pen, bag of drills). When everything is spread out on your chosen area, you will have a good overview of your entire Diamond Painting and the flat surface will help you to place the drills precisely on the canvas with your Diamond Painting pen. It is best to start at a corner of your canvas. To do this, peel off the protective film at any corner and choose the color you want to start with.
How long does the adhesive last with Diamond Painting?
The adhesive layer of Diamond Painting canvases varies in quality depending on the manufacturer. With canvases from high-quality Diamond Painting stores, you can assume that the adhesive strength will last for decades. Unfortunately, cheaper suppliers are sometimes not quite as good and the adhesive strength leaves something to be desired right from the start.
What do you do if you place a drill incorrectly?
A misplaced drill on your Diamond Painting can easily happen. Fortunately, this can be corrected quickly with the help of a pair of tweezers. Simply grab the incorrectly placed drill on the canvas with the tweezers from the toolkit included in the set, carefully remove it from the adhesive surface and then place it in the correct position on your Diamond Painting.
How long does it take to complete a Diamond Painting?
The time it takes to complete a Diamond Painting depends on several factors. First of all, it's the same with diamond painting as with everything else - practice makes perfect! The more often you have already worked with the Diamond Painting pen, the drills and the self-adhesive canvas, the easier it will be for you and the faster you will be. In addition, many people find it easier to start with round drills and are therefore quicker than with square drills. And finally, the size of the canvas also determines how long it will take you to complete your Diamond Painting. For Diamond Painting beginners and children, we therefore recommend special small motifs with round drills such as the Carat Cuties. These guarantee quick results and are therefore also ideal for painting in between.
How big are the drills in Diamond Painting?
The drills used in Diamond Painting are usually 2.5 mm (square drills) or 2.8 mm (round drills) in size. This also applies to the special shimmering AB drills and the noctilucent Diamond Painting drills.
Are the color numbers always the same for Diamond Painting?
The color numbers for Diamond Painting are always the same and correspond to the so-called DMC color list. The DMC color list has its origins in the thread colors of traditional cross stitch. This basis was adopted and adapted for the colors of the diamond drills in Diamond Painting. Incidentally, this is also the reason why Diamond Painting is called Diamond Embroidery by some.
How expensive is Diamond Painting?
The prices of Diamond Painting vary greatly and of course always depend on the size of the canvas. Low-quality products with copied or imitated motifs are available for just a few euros on the well-known Chinese platforms. A high-quality diamond painting with a motif licensed by an artist, on the other hand, costs around 50 euros (approx. 50 cm x 50 cm) to 75 euros (approx. 50 cm x 75 cm). This already includes the license fees for the artists, the elaborately detailed preparation as a Diamond Painting design, the shipping and packaging costs, a high-quality tool set and high-quality outer packaging.
How many DMC numbers are there?
In Diamond Painting, the standard DMC palette from yarn dyeing with almost 450 colors (DMC numbers) is supplemented by various other special colors. This is why Diamond Painting is also known as Diamond Embroidery. The additional colors are so-called AB Diamond Painting glitter drills and have a shiny, sparkling effect that was named after the glitter of the northern lights (Aurora Borealis). There are also drills with a metallic effect (also called metallic), drills with neon colors, crystaldrills or crystals, as well as sparkle dust or fairy dust drills, as well as noctilucent drills. Depending on the supplier, there are a total of over 500 to 550 different colors and color effects, which are available as round and square drills.
