How my grandma overcame her sadness with diamond painting

Wie meine Oma ihre Traurigkeit mit Diamant-Malerei überwunden hat

My grandma is almost 72 years old. When she was young, she used to sew and knit a lot.

I can remember her sewing clothes for my Barbie dolls when I was a little girl. She was always a creative person and loved to make all kinds of things herself.

Grandma

A few months ago, my grandpa passed away and left her an empty house. My parents and I tried to visit her as often as we could, but with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it wasn't as frequent as we would have liked.

The loneliness and lack of company caused her to develop the first symptoms of depression. Even when we visited her, she was no longer as talkative and cheerful as she used to be.

I was really worried.

At first I thought about getting her a pet, but that would have been just one more thing for her to look after, even though she was the one who needed looking after.

One day I came across a Diamond Painting website and discovered this new creative DIY hobby. I was thrilled and immediately thought of my grandma!

I found several designs that were beautiful, but I wanted something special for my grandma... and then I found the Diamond Painting option for your own pictures.

I searched for an old photo of my grandparents and had it uploaded to the website. I was amazed at how true to life the Diamond Painting seemed to be. Without hesitation, I ordered it and eagerly awaited its arrival.

Diamond Painting has brought joy back into my grandmother's life and I have to admit, I have since bought a kit for myself too :) !

I still remember well when I gave it to my grandma - she looked at me skeptically at first and asked me what she should do with it. But then we unpacked it together and I explained to her what it was and how it worked and I'll never forget the look on her face when we unrolled the canvas and she saw the motif, her photo.

When I visited her the following week, the finished painting was already hanging on the wall in the living room. When I saw it, I couldn't believe that my grandma had made it out of little plastic stones!

It looked so real.

There are now several other Diamond Paintings hanging in my grandmother's house.

And the best thing is that her mood has changed - she is much more optimistic, talkative and creative again. She and her friends meet every few weeks for a "diamond painting session" where they all do their diamond paintings together while chatting and having fun.
